Maroubra locals are venting their outrage on social media after a 4.65-metre Great White Shark was found dead in nets off the beach yesterday.

An autopsy was completed on the animal after it was retrieved by authorities, and follows a string of recent shark sightings and attacks in northern New South Wales, the Whitsundays, and the Northern Territory.

Blue Reef Fishing Charters operator Adam Cree told the ABC the shark was "definitely a man-eater".

"This morning I witnessed a boat checking the shark nets of Maroubra beach," he said.

"They looked like they were struggling to get something up.

"It was big. The biggest shark I've ever seen, and I've been running charters off Sydney for 20 years."

The incident has sparked frustration from residents and beach-goers, who say the killing of the shark was unnecessary, and are calling for the removal of nets.
