JUST IN: Speed Limit At Bluewater Changed Back To 100 After Lack Of Horse Sightings

This afternoon it has been announced that the Bruce Highway speed limit through Bluewater will switch back to 100km/h.

The 80km/h reduction was introduced in October 2017 following regular sightings of horses on or near the highway.

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper says he is pleased the 100 km/h speed zone on the Bruce Highway at Bluewater has been reinstated.

“This time last year there was an increasing number of reports of wild horses in the vicinity and about 20 sightings a month continued throughout 2018,” he said.

“The speed reduction was part of a multi-agency approach to manage the issue, which also included working with landholders to inspect and repair boundary fences while educating the public about the need to secure domestic animals."

“As sightings have stopped it appears that the measures have worked but I ask all motorists to continue being alert while driving this area – and anywhere remotely rural,” Mr Harper said.

There have been no reports of wild horses in the Bluewater area since late September, so the lift of the speed limit is now in play.

Motorists who observe animals on or near roadways should report the incident to the Qld Traffic service in 13 19 40.
